December 18, 2025

Dear friends and partners,
As we close out the year, I want to extend my deepest thanks for your generosity and for the warm welcome you’ve given me as Building Transparency’s new Executive Director. It has been a challenging year for BT and for the broader embodied carbon community, and your support has meant more than you know.
After leaving the U.S. EPA and before stepping into this role, I took a family trip to Scandinavia. Cold plunges, fikas and saunas were just what I needed and turned out to be the perfect metaphor for 2025: shock… breathe… trust… connect… reignite! I came back ready to dive into this new chapter at BT with clarity and renewed purpose, and these first months have only deepened that sense of momentum.
I’ve spent this time listening and learning – through one-on-one conversations and an energizing week at Greenbuild. Each conversation has reinforced my ‘why’ for coming to this organization: data is one of the most powerful tools for environmental progress when it is shared openly, used to build trust, and presented in a way to inspire action. And that is exactly what Building Transparency is doing every day.
Looking ahead to 2026, stay tuned for exciting news regarding tallyLCA 2.0 and get ready to help us shape EC3 2.0 – strengthening our global interoperability, modernizing our platform, and ensuring that embodied carbon data remains open, aligned, and actionable as policies and markets accelerate. Learn more about our plans in a blog post from Vaclav Hasik, our Technical Director, and provide initial feedback here. Your input and support makes this work possible and keeps EC3 trusted and accessible for thousands of practitioners around the world. A special thanks to Amazon and Skanska for kickstarting the EC3 2.0 fundraising effort, alongside contributions to Building Transparency’s core programs by ClimateWorks Foundation, Laudes Foundation, Google, Microsoft and many others.
Thank you all for standing with us. I’m grateful, recharged, and ready for the next plunge.
With appreciation,

Alison Kinn Bennett
Executive Director
Building Transparency
