Data & Tool Development Internship
Join Building Transparency to strengthen the environmental data systems powering low-carbon material decisions worldwide.
Program: Embodied Carbon & Environmental Data (EC3 Tool)
Location: Remote
Duration: 10–12 weeks (June-August)
Time Commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week (preferred 20–30 hours/week)
Compensation: $18–$25/hour (depending on experience & education level)
About the Role:
This internship supports technical data workflows and quality assurance processes within the EC3 platform. The intern will assist with validating data ingestion pipelines, testing tool functionality, and improving backend data consistency.
This role is ideal for students interested in data systems, backend development, climate tech, and applied data science.
Responsibilities:
- Test data processing workflows and identify inconsistencies
- Support validation of imported datasets across structured schemas
- Assist with quality assurance for platform features and reporting outputs
- Document technical issues and collaborate with the software development team
- Help improve processes for data validation, automation, and reporting
- Contribute to improving the reliability and consistency of environmental data systems
Qualifications:
Required:
- Undergraduate or graduate student in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong proficiency in Django, Python, and relevant libraries
Preferred:
- Experience with SQL and/or graph databases (e.g., Neo4j).
- Experience with information extraction from documents, including the use of AI and machine learning models.
- Familiarity with data visualization and analysis platforms such as Dash and Metabase (or similar tools).
- Familiarity with construction materials, EPDs, LCAs, or greenhouse gas emissions data
