Our Programs

Why education and awareness of embodied carbon matter.

Explore Our Programs

Driving more awareness of embodied carbon and its contribution to climate change is imperative to our mission. This is why we have continued to invest in the programs and resources needed to drive embodied carbon action and low-carbon procurement.

From our Carbon Actions Networks to our EPD-specific programs, we continue to support building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and designers to reduce the carbon impact of our built spaces.

Join Our Carbon Action Networks

Our Carbon Action Networks bring together members of the global building industry that are ready to act on the smart prioritization of embodied carbon in building materials. With groups designed for Manufacturers, Owners, and Contractors, members are dedicated to raising awareness and providing education on embodied carbon and its impact.

Access openEPD

openEPD is a free, open digital standard format for EPDs. Compliant with both ISO and EN standards, the digital format makes EPDs interoperable between databases and usable at a global scale.

Digitized EPDs help make these important documents more accessible and harmonized as AEC professionals can leverage them to support more comparability and select products with lower global warming potential.

Meet openIMPACT

openIMPACT is our ongoing project to develop a methodology for estimating uncertainty  across life cycle stages and generating results with ranges.

The goal of openIMPACT is to create a set of LCA impact results for construction materials based on high-quality, transparent, and peer-reviewed LCA models, which can be used broadly by open-source tools.

The methodology will be free to use, transparent, well-documented, and updatable to enable better understanding of environmental impact ranges across building materials and product types.

Leverage Embodied Carbon Action Plan

Developed by ownersCAN, the Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP) is a draft plan outlining the key steps and actions necessary to reduce embodied carbon of the buildings we design, construct, and operate. It is an interactive web resource providing insight into the steps that building industry professionals can take to reduce embodied carbon emissions across a building project’s lifecycle.

Introducing ODCi

The Open Data for Climate initiative (ODCi) provides free, open-access transparent and credible LCA data for construction materials to accelerate the decarbonization of the built environment. With ODCi, we aim to develop carbon footprint data for materials and geographies that don’t have any, all still being compliant with global standards for EPDs.
